Mission: To ensure that victims of crime receive justice and are treated with dignity and compassion through comprehensive victims' rights and services.
When a crime occurs, many victims do not know their rights or what resources are available. MCVRC has been advocating and helping victims for over 40 years. We help all victims regardless of income.
When Stephanie Roper was abducted, tortured, raped, murdered, and mutilated, the Roper family suffered a tremendous loss and were thrown into a world where legal jargon and red tape dictated what they could and couldn't do. Vince and Roberta turned their loss into action and began advocating and making changes for victims' rights across the nation.
There are over 70,000 criminal cases filed in Maryland each year. Crime victims never expect to be victimized and many have never walked into a courthouse. Most crime victims do not have legal representation or know they can receive dedicated support from an advocate who can help guide them through the legal process and refer them to other service
Our purpose is to continue to provide legal representation and support to crime victims in Maryland, conduct community outreach and establish additional partnerships. With additional funding, we will increase the number of crime victims who are assisted with navigating the criminal justice process. We will accomplish this by increasing the dedicated staff who will provide legal representation, support crime victims, conduct outreach, provide more education about crime victim’s rights, and coordinate with other service providers.
