About Us
SMCIL is a non-residential, non-profit community-based human services agency focused on providing services and advocacy to empower individuals living with disabilities to lead self-directed, independent and productive lives in their community of choice SMCIL envisions a society in which individuals with disabilities are valued equally and participate fully. SMCIL advocates for equal opportunities for all, and is driven by the needs and desires of those who may need our support.
SMCIL's 5 core services are: Individual & Systems Advocacy, Information & Referral, Peer Support, Independent Living Skills Training, and Transition Services. We also provide access to assistive technology (AT) through our AT grant and the Southern Regional AT Loan Library - tours and equipment demos, loans and trainings available by appointment during operating hours.
SMCIL prides ourselves with our services available to Veterans. We have dedicated staff to support Veterans in filing for new or increased benefits through the VA. We have opened a Veterans Training Center in our Mechanicsville office where Veterans and Consumers can receive basic computer training, resume building, job search and application assistance. SMCIL's Disabled Veterans Support Network meets every 2nd Friday of the month in our office during which Veterans receive information presented regarding varying Veterans benefits and programs, light refreshments, and peer support.
To learn more about these and other programs available at SMCIL, visit our website or Facebook page or call and speak to a staff member.
